You are down to Vimeo, Wistia and YouTube, and the business page can carry one player. Wistia collects the lead and can pass the view to a marketing platform. Vimeo gives you a player that does not run its own ads, and paid plans control which sites can embed the video. YouTube is where people find the video in public, if you can accept ads in the player.

On ads, Google's YouTube help page says [embedded videos may show skippable or non-skippable in-stream ads](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/132596), and the embed uses the same ad settings as the watch page. Only YouTube and the video owner earn from those ads. The site that embeds the player does not.

Vimeo's hosting page calls the player ad-free, with [no pre-roll, mid-roll, or sidebar ads](https://vimeo.com/features/online-video-hosting). Paid plans add domain-level limits on which sites may show the video.

Wistia's pricing page puts calls to action, forms, heatmaps and A/B testing on Business, and the platform sync on [Business + Signals](https://wistia.com/pricing), with lead scoring and pipeline attribution.

YouTube's Terms say you may show videos through the embeddable player, and that [uploading grants YouTube the right to monetize your content, including by displaying ads](https://www.youtube.com/t/terms?hl=en). The base Terms do not promise you a payment for that.

If a paid Vimeo account lapses to Basic, [storage follows the Basic plan's 5 GB limit](https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/12425416995857-FAQ-Lapsing-from-a-paid-account-to-a-Basic-account), and source files stored on Vimeo are deleted after 60 days. Download the masters before you cancel.

Quick answer

Pick Wistia if you need forms, heatmaps, and a marketing-automation sync; pick Vimeo if you only need clean hosting.

Keep YouTube alongside that paid embed when the video also needs to be found in search. When the page is a sales letter and the ad account has to learn from the purchase, use TrackPlay.

* **Vimeo.** A player that does not insert its own ads, and site limits once you are on a paid plan.
* **Wistia.** Lead forms and viewer heatmaps on Business, and the marketing-platform sync on Signals.
* **YouTube.** Public discovery, with the same ads as the YouTube watch page.
* **TrackPlay.** A sales-letter player that posts the cart-confirmed sale to Meta, TikTok and GA4.

### Four hosts on a business embed

Prices and plan features checked on the vendors' own pages on 16 October 2026\. YouTube is the free public host in this table. TrackPlay, in the last column, is the sales-letter player, so it wins the conversion rows and sits out channel and webinar rows.

### Strengths and trade-offs

Each list is about an embed on a business page.

#### Vimeo: what works, what to watch

Vimeo homepage showing its professional video hosting and player

##### What works

* Clean, ad-free, reliable hosting
* Strong client-review and portfolio tools
* Cheap entry plan and a free tier

##### What to watch

* No VSL player controls or sales-focused analytics
* Bandwidth caps and 2025-2026 billing changes bite at scale
* Not built to fire watch-depth pixels or attribute revenue

#### Wistia: what works, what to watch

Wistia homepage showing its business video hosting and marketing platform

##### What works

* Branded, ad-free embeds with forms and CTAs
* Heatmaps, A/B testing and engagement analytics
* Real CRM integrations for lead scoring and follow-up
* Free plan to start

##### What to watch

* Aimed at B2B content marketing and lead generation, with no VSL-specific player controls
* Business plan $79/mo, Lead Gen tier jumps to $329/mo
* No sales-scored split testing or cart-level attribution

#### YouTube: public reach, ads on the embed

YouTube is the one to use when the video needs to be found in public. On a page you control, keep the public upload there and put Vimeo or Wistia on the embed visitors actually watch.

It is a weak sole player on a page you are paying to send people to, because the ads and the monetization right travel with that embed.

##### What works

* Hosting and embedding have no plan fee.
* A public upload can be found in YouTube search.

##### What to watch

* Embeds may show in-stream ads under the watch page's settings, and the embedding site does not earn that revenue.

#### TrackPlay: the paid-traffic VSL pick

TrackPlay homepage. The headline reads "The VSL player that counts sales" on a dark background.

TrackPlay is a VSL player and analytics platform for paid-traffic funnels. It hosts the video behind one embed, ties each play to the sale, and posts that sale back to the ad platforms.

On the player, sound-first autoplay starts with sound where the browser allows it, alongside timed calls to action and watch gates. Retention is drawn per second and split into buyers and non-buyers, with hook rate, hold rate and revenue per play. Split tests stay under that same embed. The winner is the sale the cart confirms, scored with a statistical test.

Server-side events go to Meta, TikTok and GA4 on a watch-time milestone you choose, and the browser event is deduped against the server event. Cart postbacks run server to server for ClickBank, ClickFunnels, Kiwify, BuyGoods, Digistore24, WarriorPlus and JVZoo. A profile can follow the viewer across visits and devices and carry a hot-lead score.

Wistia also hosts video and shows who watched. It is built for marketing teams. Vimeo overlaps on hosting the file. Buyers also weigh Vidalytics, which meters bandwidth where this player meters plays. That head-to-head is in the related list.

##### What works

* Split tests run under one embed, and the winner is the sale the cart confirms.
* That sale is posted server-side to Meta, TikTok and GA4.
* Per-second retention splits buyers from non-buyers.
* Sound-first autoplay, timed calls to action and watch gates are built into the player.

##### What to watch

* Few independent reviews, so a first campaign should stay a pilot.
* Signups are by invitation only.

##### Where TrackPlay is not the answer

TrackPlay is built for a paid-traffic sales letter, so it has none of the channels, SEO pages or webinar tooling of a Wistia, and it is a poor fit when the video's job is content marketing rather than a direct-response sale. The player, the retention split and the cart postback still apply on a funnel page. It is very new: the testimonials are on its own site, independent reviews are scarce, and signups are by invitation only, which is what you would expect before a wider public record exists.

### Pricing, tier by tier

Each host charges in a different way. The figures live in the table above. This section says what each tier adds.

Wistia bills Business annually, with a 14-day trial and no card. That plan includes forms, heatmaps and A/B testing. Signals is the higher annual tier, where HubSpot, Marketo and Pardot, lead scoring and pipeline attribution start. The free plan caps storage and bandwidth and leaves branding on the player.

Vimeo's free registration is a lifetime allowance on a player with no ads of its own. Paid plans add the site limits. The help note above is what happens to source files if that paid plan lapses to Basic.

YouTube has no paid hosting tier to step into. The monetization right in the Terms is the cost: ads can run, and the embedding site is not paid for them.

TrackPlay bills by plays, and every feature ships on every paid plan. There is a no-card free plan and a 14-day trial of the paid features. The paid entry and the free play cap are in its column.

### YouTube vs Vimeo vs Wistia

A public channel and a page on your own site answer different questions. YouTube vs Vimeo vs Wistia splits on that line. Searchers find the video on the channel. The page is where you choose the player.

Use the channel for reach. Use Vimeo or Wistia for the embed on a portfolio or a sales page. An embed can still play an ad, because it keeps the watch page's ad settings. A video can live on the channel and, separately, on the host that powers the page.

YouTube as the only player on that page leaves those ads in force. The Vimeo column is the player that leaves those ads out.

### Wistia vs Vimeo vs YouTube

Wistia vs Vimeo vs YouTube looks at the same divide from the marketing side. Wistia is the host when the embed has to capture a lead. Signals is the tier that passes that view to your marketing tools. Vimeo is the host when the page needs a clean player and a limit on which sites can embed it. YouTube stays the discovery layer beside either host.

Pay for Signals when the view has to reach those tools. The form, the heatmap and the test are already on Business.

Vimeo vs YouTube vs Wistia starts from the page. If that page needs to play the video without ads, a paid Vimeo plan can restrict which sites embed it, and the channel can stay on YouTube. A team that already has the video on its channel does not have to move it to change how the page behaves.

### The verdict

There is no single winner for every business page. If you had to pick one paid host today for marketing on your own site, choose Wistia. The form on the player, and the sync on Signals, are what you are paying for. If the job requires a player without ads and a restriction on where the video can be embedded, choose Vimeo. Keep YouTube as the public copy of the video.

If the video is a sales letter and the ad account has to learn from the purchase, use the TrackPlay column. Its section states the limit: content marketing is the wrong job for it, and outside proof is still thin.

Our pick

### Wistia

Wistia wins when the video on your site has to collect a lead. Vimeo wins when you want a player without ads and control over which sites can embed it. YouTube stays the public channel beside either one. For a sales letter that has to report the purchase to the ad account, use TrackPlay, with the limit named in its section.

### Frequently asked questions

Can I embed YouTube on a business site and turn the ads off?

No separate switch exists. The embed follows the watch page, so an ad can still play there.

When is Wistia a better buy than Vimeo?

When the embed must collect a lead, or when a marketing tool has to receive the view. A clean player with site limits does not require that stack.

Which of these charges the least to host?

YouTube is the column with no hosting charge. The other three show a paid entry or a free allowance in the table.

Can any of the three tie a video sales letter back to the ad?

Wistia, Vimeo and YouTube do not send a cart-confirmed sale to Meta, TikTok or GA4 from the play. TrackPlay does that on a sales letter, and a content library still belongs with Wistia.

Should the YouTube channel and the site embed use the same host?

They can be different. Discovery can stay on the channel while the page runs on Vimeo or Wistia.
