Cheapest play plan for your monthly VSL traffic
Multiply visitors by the share who start the video, then see the cheapest plan on each host.
Monthly plays equal the visitors on the sales page, multiplied by the share who start the video. Vidalytics, VTurb and TrackPlay base their prices on that number. The form names the cheapest plan on each host, with the plan fee on one line and the extra-play charge on the next.
Use the play rate from your player when you have one. Hosts that charge by the minute or the gigabyte are priced in the video hosting cost calculator.
Choose a plan from your visitor count
Press the button to see a plan for each host. The worked example uses these defaults, and the autoplay checkbox is left unchecked.
How the play estimate is made
On VTurb's plan list, you multiply visitors on the sales page by the percentage who click play. The example there is 10,000 visitors and 60 percent, which is 6,000 plays. Those two numbers are the defaults here.
Vidalytics counts a play each time the video autoplays muted as the page loads, so the bill can run higher than a click rate. With the box checked, the Vidalytics plan is calculated from the visitor count. VTurb still uses the click-to-start number.
TrackPlay's pricing page counts one play per viewer session once playback starts. A muted autoplay nobody unmutes is not a play. The checkbox does not change TrackPlay's count.
For each host, the form keeps the plan with the lowest total. The total is the plan fee plus any plays past the allowance, at that plan's extra-play rate. A plan with no extra-play rate is chosen only when your plays fall inside its allowance. The result is an estimate. The host bills the plays its player records.
VTurb Enterprise is quoted on request. Above Scale, the estimate uses Scale's fee and Scale's extra-play rate.
The play allowances the form uses
| Host | Plan | Billing | Plays included | Plan fee | Extra play |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vidalytics | Free | Free | 1,000 | $0 | None |
| Vidalytics | Starter | Annual | 2,000 | $19 | $0.02 |
| Vidalytics | Pro | Annual | 5,000 | $63 | $0.02 |
| Vidalytics | Premium | Annual | 15,000 | $119 | $0.02 |
| VTurb | Basic | Monthly | 2,000 | $29 | $0.02 |
| VTurb | Pro | Monthly | 6,000 | $79 | $0.02 |
| VTurb | Scale | Monthly | 30,000 | $299 | $0.02 |
| TrackPlay | Free | Free | 1,000 | $0 | None |
| TrackPlay | Basic | Monthly | 5,000 | $29 | $0.02 if on |
| TrackPlay | PRO | Monthly | 15,000 | $79 | $0.01 if on |
| TrackPlay | SCALE | Monthly | 50,000 | $199 | $0.01 if on |
The same three paid Vidalytics allowances cost $24, $79 and $149 when billed month to month. The form uses the annual fees in the table. TrackPlay's free plan shows a watermark and does not require a credit card. On a paid TrackPlay plan, plays past the allowance are charged only if you turn that option on.
10,000 visitors at the default rate
With the checkbox unchecked, those 6,000 plays put you on these plans. At this count, Starter plus the plays past 2,000 costs more than Pro.
| Host | Plays counted | Plan | Included | Plan fee | Extra-play charge |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vidalytics | 6,000 | Pro | 5,000 | $63.00 | $20.00 |
| VTurb | 6,000 | Pro | 6,000 | $79.00 | $0.00 |
| TrackPlay | 6,000 | Basic | 5,000 | $29.00 | $20.00 |
Premium is the smallest Vidalytics plan with an allowance that covers all of these plays.
Turn extra plays off and PRO still covers this count. The free plan pauses playback, and it is selected only when your plays fall within its allowance.
Check the box for those same visitors and Vidalytics comes out at 10,000 plays. Premium is then the cheapest plan, because the extra plays on Pro cost more than the step up.
What happens past the allowance
The Vidalytics pricing page says the video is not shut off automatically, and a team member may get in touch about an upgrade. Extra usage is charged at the end of the billing cycle.
VTurb leaves the video online and charges plays past the plan at the end of the billing cycle. Playback continues on all three of those plans.
TrackPlay's free plan has no extra-play charge, so playback pauses once the allowance is used up. On a paid plan you can allow extra plays, or leave them off and let playback pause.
A busy week can use up a steady month's allowance. The spike-week guide follows these same limits through one heavy week.
When one rate picks the wrong plan
A Reddit post said the same video, with a different ad angle, moved engagement from 3.6% to 17.34%. A plan chosen for the lower rate will be too small if the higher rate shows up.
A split test serves two cuts, and both can record plays. Add the visitors from each sales page before you enter one number. Repeat visits and autoplay can make the recorded plays differ from that calculation. Enter the play rate your player reports.
TrackPlay when the video has to sell
TrackPlay is a VSL player for paid-traffic funnels. It ties each play to the sale and posts that conversion back to the ad platforms. It is in this form because it charges per play. The player also holds attention with sound-first autoplay, timed calls to action and watch gates, and it splits retention between buyers and everyone else. Two cuts can be tested under one embed, and the winner is the cut that produces the verified sale.
I would look at TrackPlay first for a video sales letter on paid traffic. Vidalytics is the longer-running player for that job. Vidalytics vs VTurb is the head-to-head when those two are the shortlist. The Vidalytics alternatives page groups the reasons people leave, and the play allowance is one of them.
TrackPlay is built for direct-response sales. It does not include the channels, SEO pages or webinar tools a Wistia library is bought for, and a video made for content marketing belongs on that kind of host. When the video has to convert, you still have the player, per-play pricing and a record of the sale. Outside reviews are still scarce, which fits a player this new. Signing up requires an invitation code, so use this table to choose a plan before you have your own play numbers. Paid features can be tried for 14 days.
My take: I would enter the play rate the player reports, then choose a plan that keeps the video playing all month when a pause would cut off a live ad. On Vidalytics and VTurb the video stays up, so I would pay the extra-play fee. On TrackPlay I would turn that option on before I relied on it.
