Quick answer

Vidalytics is our top pick for most people. Vidalytics is the pick if you run paid traffic to a video sales letter and want split tests scored on clicks, conversions or revenue by an established direct-response platform. The player includes smart autoplay, resume play, timed calls to action and play gates. Reports cover an engagement graph by the second, heatmaps, buyers separated from non-buyers, conversion and revenue tracking, and built-in A/B tests. It fires watch-behavior events to Meta and Google. Paid plans are billed per play. After the monthly allowance, the video keeps playing and you are billed for those plays. A muted autoplay when the page loads counts as a play.

  • Vidalytics. Best for mature VSL campaigns. Has a free tier.

Yes, Vidalytics has an API, and it is more than a single endpoint. There are two layers. A client-side Player API runs on every embed and lets you listen for events (play, pause, timeupdate, ended, CTA and Play Gate) and drive playback, on any plan. A server-side Public REST API, plus an Advanced Stats API, lets you manage videos, generate embed codes, sync viewer events to a CRM and pull analytics into a BI tool, and that layer starts on the Premium plan. If your requirement is "does it let me automate embeds, sync watch events and export stats programmatically," the answer is yes, with a plan floor to know about.

That answer only matters because of what the API sits on top of. Vidalytics is a video player built for direct response, not a general host. If you buy paid traffic to a video sales letter, your question is never "where do I put the video." It is "which player gets more people past the pitch, and lets me prove which traffic buys." Vidalytics is built to answer both.

On the front end you get the conversion controls: smart autoplay, resume play, timed CTAs and play gates. On the back end you get the data most hosts do not have: a second-by-second engagement graph, heatmaps, buyer-versus-non-buyer segmentation, conversion and revenue tracking, and native A/B tests scored on sales rather than views. It sends watch events to Meta and Google, so the ad team can retarget the people who actually watched. The API is the layer that lets a bigger operation wire all of that into the rest of its stack.

What works

  • Purpose-built VSL controls: smart autoplay, resume play, timed CTAs, play gates
  • Second-by-second engagement graph, heatmaps and buyer/non-buyer segmentation
  • Conversion and revenue tracking, plus native A/B tests judged on clicks or sales
  • A Free Forever plan lets you try the player and analytics before paying

What to watch

  • A busy month can cost more than the plan fee, because plays past the allowance are still served and then billed
  • A video that autoplays when the page loads uses plays from the plan even with the sound muted
  • Smaller independent review base than mainstream hosts, so less third-party proof to check
  • More player and analytics settings than you need if you only want to host and embed a clip

What users actually say about Vidalytics

Research: unverified

Cold traffic expects muted autoplay

Marketers on Reddit tie muted landing-page autoplay to browser rules that block sound until interaction, and worry that viewers who stay muted miss opening lines unless the player restarts on unmute.

“Most web browsers in most situations no longer allow videos with sound to autoplay on websites without the user interacting with the page and haven't for some time. So if you want the video to autoplay it has to be muted.”

u/GyantSpyder Reddit: Why landing page videos start muted

“what are your thoughts on that same landing page not being able to fast forward nor backwards? My fear is that if you can't fast backwards but it's muted, people miss some of the video.”

What users say

On its own site, Vidalytics publishes named-customer testimonials, and they cluster on one theme: it wins split tests. Eric Raum, CEO of Lexapure, writes, "I love Vidalytics. Better pricing than Wistia, with WAY better analytics." Jon Benson, who is credited with inventing the video sales letter, says, "When I switched over, their Smart Autoplay increased my conversions by 30%." Treat those as vendor-selected, but the pattern (analytics and autoplay that move a conversion rate) is the same one that recurs in independent G2 reviews.

The critical side is quieter and is about billing rather than the product. On Trustpilot the sample is small and split, and the negative reviews describe surprise overage charges after traffic spikes, written when the bill was still counted in gigabytes. Support is a repeated positive on Trustpilot and G2 alike.

Pricing

The annual column is the monthly price when the year is paid up front. The play column is the allowance each month.

Plan Annual Plays a month Extra play
Starter $19/mo 2,000 $0.02
Pro $63/mo 5,000 $0.02
Premium $119/mo 15,000 $0.02

Free Forever includes 1,000 plays and 3 videos. Paying month to month for these three plans costs $24, $79 and $149. The pricing page also lists the year totals beside those monthly allowances: 24,000, 60,000 and 180,000. Playback continues after that monthly number, and the added charge lands at the end of the cycle. Paid plans include a 14-day trial.

Which plan fits a month of traffic

A play is counted when the video starts. If the sales page autoplays the video, each visitor uses one play, even when the sound stays muted. Vidalytics explains how plays are calculated, and the allowances are the ones on the pricing page.

I'd stick with Vidalytics if you want the engagement graph and split tests scored on sales, and your monthly volume fits a plan in the table. If the bill is why you are comparing hosts, the play-plan finder adds the plan fee to plays over the allowance and shows the lower total. The Vidalytics alternatives page groups other hosts by the reason you would switch. Vidalytics vs VTurb lines the prices and play counts up next to each other.

Changelog

  • 14 Sep 2026 — First published. We read the vendor's pricing, integrations and API documentation, confirmed the two API layers and that the REST API starts on Premium, and verified plan prices.
  • 23 Oct 2026: The pricing table now lists the annual plans, with plays included each month. The video keeps playing after that allowance. A new section links the play-plan finder, the alternatives page and the VTurb comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What happens after the monthly plays run out?
The video keeps playing. The rate is the extra-play column in the pricing table, added when the cycle closes.
Does a silent start count as a play?
Yes. A video that starts as the page opens counts, even with the sound off.
Does Vidalytics have an API?
Yes, in two layers. The player script on every embed can hear play, pause, time updates, the end, a call to action and a play gate, and it can drive playback. The server-side Public API and Advanced Stats API manage videos, build embed codes and pull stats out.
Which plan unlocks the server API?
Premium. The player script ships with the embed on every plan, including Free Forever. Near-real-time stats and the finer Advanced Stats filters sit on Enterprise.
How many API requests are included?
Premium and Agency allow 3,000 requests a month. Enterprise allows 30,000. Past that, calls slow to about one an hour, or about ten an hour on Enterprise. Stats usually refresh every two hours. A bulk call covers up to five video IDs, and one call covers at most a month of dates.
Is Vidalytics the right host for a plain embed?
I'd skip it for that job. The settings and the analytics are built around a letter you send paid traffic to, and a plain embed pays for tools it will not use.
